HBCU vs PWI

There are many advantages and disadvantages to attending HBCU’s. A common disadvantage would be the lack of funding going into the institutions. Many HBCU’s are private intuitions, they do not receive outside government help they only rely on the input of the students and alumni who attended the schools to help provide funds. Many people feel that when attending an HBCU they may not receive and adequate education. They believe this to be true because they watch the news and read stories about different schools losing their accreditation, and slowing closing its doors.
The disadvantages of attending an HBCU are often times on the surface, out in the open. The advantages are most likely to be found within a person, depending on their experiences at an HBCU. The networking and bond found at HBCUs is an important advantage that you will not find in a larger institution. You are constantly around people that look and many times have the same morals and lifestyles as you, which make it more comfortable for you to be in attendance. Another advantage is that while attending an HBCU you are adding on to traditions and legacy to be added to not only African- American history but your own as well.

Muckrakers

Muckrakers are people provide factual information about corruption. Unlike other journalist who cover an array of stories including the positive and negative, muckrakers cover just the negative and glamorize those topics.
The muckraker name was popularized by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, when he compared them to the Man with the Muck-rake in Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, who was so focused on raking the filth at his feet that he failed to look up and accept the celestial crown.  Roosevelt felt that the muckrakers of his time were so focused on bring out the bad of the nation that they did not provide information to help promote or support the nation.  However, newspapers and magazines written by muckrakers did provide the hidden information that many papers and magazines did not present to the people. In current times, muckraker papers would be called tabloids.

Autobiography

All throughout her life Brianna Feagin loved to travel she loved to travel all over the world. As a child and into her teenage years she was privileged enough to enjoy the finer things in life such as traveling abroad. She says that, “the only way to be truly diverse is discover other countries and cultures.” Brianna strived to be a diverse person, so she saw traveling as a way to meet that need and desire. She had traveled to over 10 countries in a short 18 years of her life. Before she dies she plans to travel to every continent.
The favorite way of travel for Brianna is by cruises. She states that she prefers cruises because, “cruises give you just enough time to visit that country, but also leaves you with the desire to want to come back and explore what you did not explore before.”  Traveling is also important to Brianna because it gives her time to spend with her family and close family friends. Traveling also gives her time to herself which she does not always have time for because of her strenuous academic schedule. Brianna has stated that, “when I travel, I just feel relaxed.”  After having been on top academic list and multiple school activities, one can only imagine the need for relaxation that she has.
“I feel blessed that my family and I have been able to travel like we have.” Keeping God in her life, Brianna has become a humble person about the things God gives to her.  Since God has been a blessing to her she strives to be a blessing to others so that they might be able to travel some day as she has. In the future Brianna plans on building a philanthropic foundation that grants others with the blessings of travel.

How to Ties Shoes

So you want to learn to tie shoes? Here is how you do it.
You take a lace in the left and right hand each then you cross them like an “X.” Next you fold one lace under the other and pull real tight. Then you loop the left lace and wrap the right lace around your left thumb holding the left loop using the left index finger push the right lace through the bottom of loop.  Lastly, catch the new right loop with right finger and pull both loops tight until middle knot is clothes.
Now you try!

Letter to big brother

Dear Anthony,
College life is going good so far. I’m still getting used to the fact of having to live with a roommate. You know since you left I haven’t had to share or live with anybody but mom and dad and I definitely didn’t have this many females around me. Living with you and Marquis was tough but living with these girls is tougher. Staying in Asbury is making make more female friends but it’s not that bad. I just feel like sometimes me being so independent is a bad thing. I’m so used to doing things by myself that it feels weird to have to do things with 2 to 5 other girls. I mean daddy told me not to be going places by myself but sometimes I just feel like being by myself. Does that make me a bad person or will I be making myself an outcast because of the need to be by myself? On the other hand I am making friends, being friendly and trying my best to keep a smile on my face. I always just remember you telling me that if I was a mean person or had attitude I wouldn’t have any friends.
Living here in South Carolina is way different than I thought. Like, it will rain just out of nowhere. One minute it is sunny and hot then the next its hot and raining. Here it will just rain with a little lightning and thunder and you know back in Kansas that would never happen. I have never in my life, not even in Puerto Rico, felt warm rain. The rain comes out the sky warm!  The people here are very nice; they just say “hi” to you when you walking by. I even got into the habit of saying “hi” to people as I walk by. So far the craziest thing about the people who live here in South Carolina is that they speak differently the farther south you go. I had no clue about this. Some girl told my roommate and I that the farther south you go the more the people speak “gee chi” some language or slang that the people from Charleston speak, but not everybody speaks it. Sometimes I just feel so rude that I have to ask some people to repeat themselves because I don’t quite catch what they say, but by the end of first semester I’ll be able to understand better, hopefully.
But all in all I like college life. I haven’t had a chance to miss mom and dad yet they call me every night after daddy gets off work. Daddy tries to act hard like he doesn’t miss me, but I know he does, I know he cried when they finally went home. I will talk to you later, or when something exciting happens.
Love,
Bri
